San Diego 2017

Our trip to San Diego was MOSTLY great!  We did lots of fun things that the boys enjoyed and made some fun memories.  We stayed at a condo about a block away from the beach, and took advantage of it all we could, walking the boardwalk and beach nearly every night.
Our little man, Dawson, seemed totally fine before we left, but ended up being sick the whole trip with some type of yucky GI flu.  That part really was terrible, but we made the most of it, and he was still a happy kid every day despite going thru literally a dozen diapers in an afternoon.  With a situation like that, we went thru multiple changes of clothes too, and despite packing extra clothes, on our zoo day we ended up wheeling him our of there in nothing but a diaper!  All the reserves were gone, yikes!
While we were there, San Diego was experienced an unusually ridiculous heat wave, and it was in the 90's for a few days.  It was nice at the beach(even cool-ish at night) but SO hot everywhere else.  One day, we toured the USS Midway, an aircraft carrier and museum and the boys absolutely loved it.  The planes on the top deck were a real treat and the rest of the ship was fascinating.  We would definitely do it again.
Sea World was a big hit too, as always.  We were able to go a couple of days, and one was before the weekend and so worth it.  With so few people there, the kids rode the big rides and rollercoasters over and over and over again.  The second they came off, they ran to the start again.  It was so much fun.  Beckett particularly enjoyed talking to the guy working at the penguin exhibit (who coincidentally was the same guy who ran the Shamu show) about anything and everything marine animal related he could think of asking.

The beach was spectacular and Asher and Beckett gave boogie boarding a shot.  Between that and beachcombing for treasures (not limited to seashells, but anything random at all they could find).  These boys could live on the beach, no problem.  Our location made it so easy and fun.  The sunsets were also amazing and we took in as many as possible on our beach walks.  Dawson had a fun time driving cars around and digging in the sand.
In Old Town San Diego, the kids especially enjoyed the exhibits, the presentation, dressing up and panning for gold at the Mormon Battalion Visitors Center. Such a great little attraction, and so well done.
On one day we did a harbor cruise, which was a nice reprieve from the heat.  We heard some great tidbits about the city and took in the beautiful views of the ocean and the city.

Lego land was fun for a day, although hot and busy.  We did get to get to hit the Zoo on a day too, which was awesome because the last time we went there, Corey was at a conference all day while we played.  Everyone had their favorites, mostly the Pandas, although Corey's was hands down the anteather!  We had fun and survived the crazy frequent diaper changing events.  Whew!
Such a great trip.  We just never get tired of playing in San Diego, and always find a few new things to try.  We're especially glad we were still able to do some things even though sweet Dawson wasn't at his best...he still somehow seemed pretty cheerful.
