Halloween fun - Covid Style

Welp, here it is, Halloween 2020! This is one for the books for sure.  We've been eating and seeing and smelling pumpkin everything here for about a month now.  Fall has been warmer than usual, until we had a crazy 6-inches on the ground snowstorm a few days before Halloween.  It was crazy!  We loved it though, and made it out sledding before it was gone.  Sooooo fun.  Oh!  And Asher's Dodgers won the World Series!  He was so happy.  I mean SO happy.

We still wanted the kids to have as much fun as possible, despite the continued restrictions.  The cases have been escalating, so no parties, no trick-or-treating, basically we've been told to do things at home with your family.  SO, we had the boys brainstorm costumes...Dawson wanted to be a parrot, so Corey and I fell in with that and donned some pirate wear.  Beckett and Asher didn't care as much, although in the end Beckett announced he wanted to be Iron Man (the boys have been watching a lot of the Avengers movies, and, well, Tony Stark is his fave), so I miraculously found a costume in his size about a week before Halloween.  Asher said he would be a penguin again (a hoodie costume from the past) and was happy as a clam with that.  We were a random bunch, but it was great!  We also carved pumpkins...Dawson donned a mask willingly because he absolutely hates the smell of pumpkin guts.  Speaking of Dawson, that boy won the virtual costume contest for his age group at his school.  We're pretty sure it was the extra 'squawk' he threw in when it was his turn to share.  So cute.

With trick-or-treating pretty much canned, the city put on a drive through trunk-or-treat, so we bought ticket for that- and it was actually really fun.  We went to Flying Star next, where they were giving kids in costume a huge cookie.  Then, since we were in the neighborhood, we thought, Krispy Kreme...and headed to their drive thru line, which was long.  After a few minutes, and some deliberating going on (we have tons of treats already...let's just go home...) some really nice people pulled up and asked us if we'd like a dozen doughnuts.  Um, wow thanks!  So, we went home.  Yes, there are still nice people in the world:)

That night we had a Halloween party with our family.  It was great.  We ate fun and crazy food (soup with bone breadsticks, and a vegetable skeleton), played a bunch of games and watched our traditional "It's a Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown."  Dawson had insisted on playing 'pin the nose on the jack-o-lantern', and we also had a contest to guess how many orange balls were in a jar as well as the favorite halloween egg hunt outside for eggs filled with candy and money.  Making due on a strange holiday.  I was exhausted, but over the next couple of days, the kids all said how much they liked it, so in the end all the effort was worth it I think.

P.S.  We grew this beauty from seeds my grandmother sent me before she passed away a few years ago.  Can't wait to grow more next year!
